Guide: multi-language website

This guide will teach you how to create another language version of your website.

Step 1/4: Set your website language



Tell Unicorn Platform what language your main website is using.
Navigate to General settings:

Set website language.

Step 2/4: Re-make your website in another language



Clone your website or create a new one. Populate it with content on another language. Publish it.

Two separate websites with content in different languages.

Step 3/4: Set the remake's language



Set the other website's language in General settings. Same as you did it in the first step for your main website.

Set the language of the new website.



Now you only need to link up the language versions.

Go back to your main website's General settings and add the cloned website as a language version:

Once you select a site as a language version, the "Add a language version" button on that site will become unavailable.

Add another website as a language version.

That is all! Now your websites are linked.
Unicorn Platform will put meta tags to inform Google about your setup. Google will start giving search results depending on your audience geo.

The language widget will allow your visitors to select a preferred language.

The widget can be added in Settings > Widgets:

You can add the language widget to all or some of your websites.

After changing a website's language settings, please re-activate the widget to apply the changes.

There is a more precise way to tell Google about your languages set up. You can cross-link specific pages.

To link a page to its other language version, add this meta tag to the page's head section:

<link rel="alternate" href="https://de.example.com/pricing" hreflang="de" />

For example, I want to state de.unicornplatform.com/pricing as a German version or unicornplatform.com/price
Here is how:

Linking pages

The language widget is smart enough to look for the <link> tags you set.
A URL to another language website in the widget will be replaced to a URL to a particular page in another language. Automatically.

Q: Can I automatically detect a visitors' geo and redirect them?
A: No, because it is not recommended by Google.

A: You can add an unlimited amount of language options to your website.
